About 80 percent of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the use of fossil fuels are produced by the energy industry and the remaining 20 percent from agriculture, the report said. Coal is the main source of electricity generation.

In China, the use of coal to generate electricity increased from to 79 percent in 2003 from 71 percent in 1990. It rose in India over the same period to 68 percent from 65 percent, Jamal Saghir, director of energy and water for the World Bank, said according to the report on the Bank's Web site.
